Developer's Journal

This page will chronicle any interesting developments, ideas, failures that I encounter with this project. Think of it as changelog filtered for interesting material. I'll try to keep this updated on a regular basis.

Lots of developments since the last post. Completed work for basic army functions-still some bugs with this, but should be worked out soon. Bonus movement is in, except for air movement. Still working on the combat system-this is very basic at this point. Terraforming is also closer to how it should actually function-now you can only terraform an area that is adjacent to a garrison or army with terraforming units. Terraforming 'points' still have not been implemented. I did a short 10 week writeup, which will be posted in the downloads section for anyone who is interested.

First Media Update! Check the media section for shots of the basic interface, the terraforming menu and cities+terraformed improvements.

3-02-05

Finished working out bugs with terraforming. First city implementation! Cities gather resources, grow/shrink based on resources of nearby tiles. First deploy to actual Pocket PC-performance actually seems to exceed that of emulator. Besides that, no compatibility issues between emulator and actual Pocket PC.

Terraforming and native life are now in-game. Fungus is populated at the beginning at a game, can grow or be removed. Tiles can now be terraformed to add roads, solar arrays, mines, farms or forests. This completes most of the work on the terrain engine, so the next goal will be city dynamics.

2-22-05

Most of the terrain engine is now complete. Tiles are now assigned elevation, climate and terrain. Climate is based on elevation and distance to bodies of water, while terrain is currently randomized. A user interface box will now display a the current year, your faction's energy, as well as the elevation, terrain and climate of the highlighted square.

Revised webpage finished (php based). The .plan has be updated with information on armies.

Webpage is up!. A rudimentary version of the terrain generation engine is also working, which I'll try to put a few shots of in the media section.
