TV and Entertainment

The internet has changed the way we look at entertainment very much. There are SO many websites out there whose soul purposes are to entertain their visitors. These sites include sites with information about when and where entertainment is going to happen as well as sites that contain flash animations and other things to do with your spare time.

Here at Northwestern University, instead of bringing a television set to the dorm when moving in, all students need in order to watch TV is a computer with an internet connection. Using a program called NUTV, cable television channels stream in through the internet and show up on the computer screen.

Then there are sites where you can go to play online games or watch flash animations, or just to read comic strips. There are so many ways to use time when you’re on the internet, which I’ve found has led to a decrease in the amount of time I’ve spent doing things like reading. This past summer I had to make a conscious effort to spend time reading, whereas in past summers I’ve never had a problem with not having the time to read. Sometimes the entertaining things on the internet take up more time than it feels, and people end up wasting their time doing things that aren’t as beneficial for them. As long as people continue to make conscious efforts to do the other things that they are assigned to do, this shouldn’t become too big of a problem.
